School Spirit Day- red, white, and blue
6/21 Author visit
6/26 Last day of school
This month we will continue to practice "tapping out" or decoding words. We will also learn how to blend sounds together to make cvc words (consonant-vowel-consonant words). We will work on digraphs...th, sh, wh, ch, ck.
We will continue to review the first 50 words on the
Fry Word List.
In Reader's Workshop we will focus on using our reading strategies (or "superpowers") to help us figure out tricky words. We will also learn about the traits of a non-fiction book.
Please remember to read every night and return the reading baggies to school each day. Remind your children to look for sight words they have learned and to point under each word as they read!
Although we are working on our fluency, it is very important that your child comprehends what he/she has read. Try to talk to your children about each book when they are done reading. Ask about the main idea ("This book was about.."), have them retell the story from beginning to end, find out what their favorite part was and why, and see if the book reminds them of another book or something from their own lives.
In Writer's Workshop, we will focus on "How To" writing. We will learn to teach our readers how to do something we are experts at by explaining the sequence of steps. Emphasis will be placed on volume, working with a variety of writing papers, and planning/writing sentences.
In Math we will talk about addition and subtraction.
In Social Studies, we will concentrate on Flag Day.
In Science we will learn about ladybugs and summer safety.
