This month we will practice identifying upper and lowercase letters as well as their sounds.
We will also practice the first ten words on the Fry Word List.
In Reader's Workshop we will focus on proper book handling, establishing good reading routines, and taking picture walks/making predictions/pointing to print.
Please remember to read every night and return the reading folders to school each day. Remind your children to look for sight words they have learned and to point under each word as they read!
Although we are working on our fluency, it is very important that your child comprehends what he/she has read. Try to talk to your children about each book when they are done reading. Ask about the main idea ("This book was about.."), have them retell the story from beginning to end, find out what their favorite part was and why, and see if the book reminds them of another book or something from their own lives.
In Writer's Workshop, we will focus on writing personal narratives. Emphasis will be placed on thinking about an appropriate idea, drawing a clear and detailed illustration, and labeling our pictures.
In Math we will talk about shapes and
In Social Studies, we will concentrate on fire safety and Columbus Day.
In Science we will talk about fall.
