        • Fry Word List

High frequency words, also known as sight words or Fry words, are words that can be recognized quickly by sight. Recognition of these words is crucial in order to achieve reading fluency. These words make up over half of the words in general text. Therefore, teaching children high frequency words is a crucial goal of education in the primary grades. Below you will find links to the high frequency words lists in the order that they are introduced to your child. The words are introduced a few at a time each week in school. If your child appears to know the high frequency words being introduced each week, feel free to go on to the next set of words. This will benefit your child greatly and will help their reading progress further.
